Jagex Studio announced that its competitive mode for Old School RuneScape is now live. Dubbed Leagues V – Raging Echoes, the new completion will start on Thursday, November 27.
According to a press release published by Games Press, players will face new in-game challenges that will test their gaming skills. Players are invited to immerse themselves in the new content, completing standards and new tasks.
“Leagues V – Raging Echoes sees the return of a fan-favorite competitive mode that tests RuneScape members skills and combat through a series of challenging in-game tasks. Start a new adventure on a fresh character, complete tasks, earn points, and unlock relics to access new regions with additional challenges to face.”
By 2013, the main version of RuneScape (now called RuneScape 3) was heavily criticized for pay-to-win mechanics and aggressive microtransactions. OSRS was launched with a strict subscription-only model, ensuring that every high-level armor piece or skill achievement had to be legitimately earned through time and effort, not a credit card.

It still demands patience, and the grind is as real as it ever was, but the unmatched feeling of finally hitting that level 99 makes every second worth it.

Among the novelties of the new competitive mode is Combat Mastery. This is a new core of combat power that will change the way players progress through the League. This new system aims to give players more control over the battle buffs and boosts as they rage battles.
Another interesting change affects the Area-Locking feature, which has now become a permanent part of Leagues V – Raging Echoes. Not to mention the return of Theorycrafting and Enhanced Bosses, adding to fans’ enjoyment.
Old School RuneScape’s enduring success offers a masterclass for the modern gaming industry. In an era dominated by predatory microtransactions and battle passes, OSRS thrives on a simple, subscription-backed foundation built entirely on player autonomy and democratic development.
By respecting its core identity while boldly expanding its world, the game stands as a triumphant blueprint for how to respect a community and sustain an MMORPG for decades to come.
The press release further added that there were “huge XP rewards, fresh changes, and exciting new twists on classic Old School RuneScape gameplay.
“Leagues V – Raging Echoes is a highly accessible seasonal game mode for all RuneScape members to jump in and forge their path through Gielinor. ”
In addition, the studio has added a special membership package “providing access to Members content for the duration of Leagues V Raging Echoes at a discounted rate, available for both new and returning players.”
Leagues V – Raging Echoes will run until January 22, 2025, and players can find more details on special packages on the game’s website. Old School RuneScape is available now on PC, Steam, iOS, and Android.
Conclusion
Ultimately, Old School RuneScape is far more than a simple time capsule from 2007. By placing the game’s evolution entirely in the hands of its community through the polling system, Jagex has achieved the impossible: keeping a twenty-year-old MMO feeling fresh, competitive, and deeply rewarding.
Whether you are returning to finish a childhood quest or stepping into Gielinor for the very first time, OSRS proves that true depth, charm, and community will always triumph over flashy graphics. The adventure never truly ends—it just waits for you to log back in. Are you ready to play?
