The thing is, it was not just any ghost, it was a fire-throwing demon…well let me tell you about it.
There is a small town far South called Chaque and I would never have found it looking on Google Maps, but my girlfriend lived there. One evening I went calling and after a long evening went to sleep outside in a hammock. Well, too things created this – the girl had very strict parents and it was summer.
After tossing endlessly for hours and unable to sleep because of the heat, I went for a stroll. I took a flashlight with me as the small town had no streetlights. After walking for a while I heard a horse rushing towards me. The hoof beats played a sweet rhythm which disclosed that someone was in the saddle.
I pointed the flashlight downward to avoid blinding the rider who was a lot closer now. With all this, he did not notice me or slow his speed. He was heading directly for me.
I crossed to the other side of the street, protecting myself from this blind horseman. |This time I caught his full attention. He pulled the horse up shortly, but so hard that it seemed to drift for a few seconds.
Suddenly, he whirled the horse around and spurring it with all his might, sped into the night where he came from. I did recognize him as one of the church elders.
Two days later, I visited my girlfriend again. She told me to be careful if I go wandering in the night. There was a fire-throwing demon at large. The creature moved from one side of the street to another, flashing fire from his hands. The story continued to list the elder’s sad encounter with the beast who pursued him all the way home.
I confessed my side of the story to my girl who found it so humorous at the time. After all, her Romeo was now a fire-throwing demon, a spawn out of hell itself.

Reminds me of the duppy or a gunman song where the writer advises us not ‘to run before our feet hit the ground’. I feel sorry for him and all the folks who are now afraid to walk the Caque roads at nights. -
